Renew domain name
-
Good day,
I need to renew our domain name. I am a site administrator but not the original site creator (who is no longer involved with the site). We went through this pain a couple of years ago for the last renewal. After that episode, I was provided with authorization info for the domain name but I can’t figure out how to use it to transfer the domain name to me and do the renewal without trying to track down the site creator again. Any guidance you can provide will be much appreciated. Thanks. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi There,
Here is a support site that can walk you through transferring the domain name from the previous to yourself as long as you are already able to login in:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-domain-registration/If you are unable to login and are trying to gain access to the account through the authorization info that you have, you can start here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/Hope this helps!
Thanks -
HI ,
Your domain is in active state here are some details of your domain
Registration Date:2011-02-09
Expiration Date:2017-02-09
Updated Date:2016-01-20It should work ok. For your information your domain is registered with Wild West Domains , all you need is access to the account you registered the domain and renew it when its close to expiry.
Also make sure the wordpress plan you are using is active along with your domain mapping period as well.
Let me know if you need any further information. -
Hi,
Thanks for your replies. Unfortunately, I seem to be unable to explain my situation adequately. I’ll try again.
Our web site was created and registered by another user who is not involved any longer.
Prior to the original web site creator leaving the scene, I was made an administrator for the web site. This has worked well for maintaining the web site.
However, every two years we get the notice to renew the domain. WordPress will only allow the original web site creator to do the renewal.
The last time the renewal was done, I received an email providing me with authorization info for our domain name so that I would be able to do the renewal.
I can’t find anything in the forums that explains how to do what I need to do.
What this comes down to is: I need to transfer ownership of the domain to me. I assume that the authorization info I have is actually to show that I am allowed to receive ownership of the domain but that someone at WordPress will have to do the transfer operation, ie. it is not something within my ability as the web site administrator to do.So, if the appropriate person could contact me regarding this I would be most appreciative. Cheers.

HI there,
To confirm, this is for the domain, ottawawelsh.com, correct?
That domain belongs to the username, celticonnect. Only that username can renew it, make changes to it, or transfer it. The regulations that govern domain ownership changed in December and are now incredibly strict, so there is nothing else we can do in this case. Only the user who currently owns the domain can renew or transfer it.
If you are unable to contact the current owner to have them transfer the domain to you, the only other suggestion I can make is that you register that domain with a dropcatching service and wait for it to go through the expiration process. If you register a domain with a dropcatch service, they attempt to register the domain on your behalf the moment it becomes available again (typically around 90 days after expiration), before anyone else can register it.
It’s not a guarantee that you’ll get the domain – someone else might already have that domain on back-order somewhere – so the best course would still be to try and reach the current owner so they can transfer ownership to you or another admin on the site.
