Renew my site

I need to renew my site. I work for a US Navy squadron and we have lots of turnover as people come and go. It appears that this site was created 2 years ago on a free plan. That user was @vt3stan and I have no idea who it even was which means they are definitely long gone. Problem is it appears to me that that user is the only one who would be normally allowed to simply ‘renew’ the site. I can only see the upgrade option on my admin account of @dconstan. Is there any way to give me the option to renew? Or am I completely mistaken and is the upgrade just required after enough time on the free plan?

  • Hi there,

The site, vt3stan.wordpress.com, belongs to the username, vt3stan, and that username also owns the domain on the site, vt3stan.com

Only the username that owns an upgrade can manage it, so the only way you’d be able to gain control over that domain is if vt3stan were to transfer the upgrade to you. Domain ownership is governed by as many regulations as most government departments, so we cannot make exceptions in this regard – we will need the current owner of the domain to contact us to authorize us to transfer the domain to your site.

However, when you bought the Personal plan for the site using your account the free domain in your plan did cause the domain to be renewed, so the domain will keep working until November next year, so for now the site will remain online at that domain.
