Renewal fee?

  • Unknown's avatar

I did not renew right away because I wasn’t sure I still wanted to advertise my business online due to having a full time job. But I thought about it for a while and still would like to keep my sight up. I would like to treat it as I am signing up! not renewing. $80 late fee is a bit much cause I don’t think I am late. I was just tying to decide what I wanted for my future. Can you drop the fee or lower it in anyway? It’s just a little high for me to pay right now.

Hope you can help a business out! :)

Once a domain expires, it goes into a grace period and then a redemption period. See this support doc on domain expiration for a full explanation http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/ WordPress.com is a domain reseller, not the registrar. $80 is pretty normal for expired domains in the redemption period.

My suggestion is if you really want your domain back, you renew before it leaves the redemption period and is bought by a domain squatter. (Our company paid $500 to get our domain back.)

    Sorry for no better news.

and since the name has your name in it – you will be prime target of a squatter to hold your name hostage –

note – if you were not sure what you wanted to do – it only would have cost you $ 5.– to keep the domain name (skip the mapping @ $ 13.-) while you thought about things

    Hello kgpeck,

As the others have said once the 14 day grace period ends and the redemption period begins we are charged the $80 fee from our registrar. I’m sorry to say that we are not able to lower or wave fees :(

If you do decide you would like to renew this domain let me know and I can start the redemption process.

    Thanks.
