    Manage Your Purchases

As long as you are logged in with the username account that purchased the upgrade, you can change/cancel the autorenew settings by following the instructions in the above Support doc. Note that upgrades are normally renewed a month in advance of their expiry.

I received an email telling me my domain “costs £22.00, and it is set to expire in 36 days, on March 5, 2016. If this upgrade expires, your site will no longer be available.
If you would like to keep the domain you should renew it immediately to avoid a late registration fee or losing it permanently when it expires.”

Is the £22 a one-off fee or an annual subscription? This is not made clear andnot should be.

All upgrades on WordPressdotcom, including custom domains and mapping, are renewed annually (“per site, per year”). All the support docs are quite explicit on this point. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

Note that upgrades are normally renewed a month in advance of their expiry. This is to ensure that if something goes wrong (like having an outdated payment method) you still have time to update and correct before you lose your domain. Do not let your domain expire if you intend on using it because the recovery process is lengthy and costly. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/
