Renewal of Premium Theme

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
Im trying to renew the Premium Theme subscription for the next year for the blog under "oncirculation.com" (the old subscription is still going for 5 days). I could not find any option where I can pay for the next year. I could put in credit card details in the window where you get the subscription in the first place and hoped that would do the trick. But afterwards the website just told me that I already have the Premium with this blog and asked me whether I wanted to renew, but it didnt gave any link or so where I could actually renew it.
So where can I renew the Premium Theme, or do I have to wait till the old one runs out?
    Cheers,
    Thomas

  • Hi there. You appear to be using Coraline, which is a free theme, not a premium one. Do you perhaps mean the premium upgrade bundle?

You should be able to renew the bundle by going to Store ->My Upgrades in the dashboard. There should be a button to renew it there if you don’t have auto-renew enabled. http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/

Let us know if you still don’t see the option to renew.

If you bought a theme and you want to keep it, no problem. Theme purchases are one-time purchases, so you never have to renew; it’s yours forever.

Sorry for the confusion, yes I meant the upgrade bundle. The blog was set up by someone else, but Im currently managing it, so I wasnt aware there was a difference.
There is no button to renew in there or the setting button as under http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/. Where the setting button should be is just a “$99.00 USD per year”.
I doubt that auto-renew is on, as Im pretty sure the person who paid it last year didnt left the credit card details in there, but where can I check whether that is enabled or not?
Can I somehow upload a screenshot here, to show you how it looks like?
    Thanks for the quick answer.
    Cheers,
    Thomas

Uh, sorry for the messing up with the backtick characters, just realized now that this formats the text.

Only the person who bought the bundle originally can renew it. I’ll flag this for staff, who will figure out a way to transfer it to you.

    Hi Thomas,

Upgrades (like your site’s WordPress.com Premium plan) are owned by individual users, and as raincoaster mentioned only the user who owns the upgrade can manage and renew it.

You can find out who owns the upgrade under Store > My Upgrades in the site’s dashboard. That person will need to log in to their WordPress.com account to renew it.

Alternately, that person can reply here or contact us directly and ask us to transfer the upgrade to another user, so that user can renew it.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that.

    Hi Rachel,
I know who originally purchased it, so I will try to contact her.
However, I know for a fact, that last year the renewal was not done by the original purchaser, but by the admin of the blog at that time. She said it was complicated and she had to contact the support as well, but it was possible. So if there is any chance I can do it, please let me know, as I am not sure whether I can get to the original purchaser in time!
    Cheers,
    Thomas

    Hello all,

I originally set up the blog through our school administrator. Could you please give instructions as to how I can transfer my authority over? And to how this is done in the future as new students take over running the blog.

    Thanks,
    Kelly

    Hi Kelly,

Support staff can transfer ownership of the blog’s upgrades from one user to another — you’re welcome to contact us any time you need a hand with that.

Would you like to transfer the WordPress.com Premium upgrade (including ownership of the domain name oncirculation.com) to the user thomashaber? That will give Thomas the ability to renew this upgrade on the blog.

    <opinion>

Suggestion – transfer the blog ownership to an email account with the school that will be around for a long time and pay for any upgrades through that account –

Then add / subtract students every year as Editors & Authors if they will not be changing Themes etc. By not having students as Admin, they can’t delete the blog or trash the look of it.

But an Editor can change any content (including deleting all the content if they wanted) and manage the content of the blog – safer and fewer accidents

    Hi again,
I think Kelly transfered the blog to me, but I still do not have the option to renew it. Is the transfer process ongoing? It is friday noon here in Australia, so that gives me 3-4 hours in which I can go to an admin at the school here to pay for the renewal, then it is weekend and the package expires in 2 days. So I am running out of time.
    Cheers,
    Thomas

    Hi Thomas,

Kelly started the transfer process separately, and we’re just waiting for her to confirm everything before we can complete the transfer. Once she’s confirmed it, the blog and upgrade will be transferred to you so you can renew everything yourself.

    Hi,
looks like that is not going to be sorted till the package runs out (less then 24 hours now). Will it be totally impossible to get the address (oncirculation.com) back if I purchase a new package once the old one runs out? Or would it just not work if someone goes for it faster (which I think wouldn`t be to likely)?
    Cheers,
    Thomas

Okay this is the second string I am posting in to. I did not receive anything requiring confirmation, there was no instruction of what confirmation you want (written, verbal, carrier pigeon) and I’m not sure how many different times, and different ways you would like me to say I CONFIRM the transfer to Thomas Haber.

    Hi Kelly,

I’m sorry — we sent you an email to confirm the transfer and didn’t hear back. Now that you’ve confirmed it here, I transferred ownership of both the site and the site’s upgrades to Thomas.

Since you went ahead and renewed the WordPress.com Premium plan, and you meant for Thomas to pay for this renewal, I can issue you a full refund for this renewal if you’d like and send Thomas a payment request, instead.

I’m also checking with our team to find out why the receipt for your renewal payment isn’t showing up in your account billing history — I’ll make sure we get you a receipt for that as soon as possible. (We’ll also send you confirmation of the refund if you want a refund on it so that Thomas can pay for the renewal directly.)

Please let me know if there’s anything more I can do to help.

THANK YOU! You have restored my faith in the service. I’m not sure why I am not receiving any emails from you. I’ve checked all my accounts and I didn’t get a confirmation, or notification of an update from this thread. Perhaps a problem at my end.
If you could organise a refund that would be wonderful and Thomas can take care of it, and see if he want to make our school admin and administrator on the blog, that way we don’t need to worry about switching it around all the time. Thanks you so much for your help!

  • Unknown's avatar

A thank you also from me. I am perfectly happy with you guys sending the payment request to me, as I can go to a school admin with it, an neither Kelly nor me has to wait till we get refunded from the university, as this can take some time.

And just to confirm that: I checked in my account and I now seem to have the full administrative power over it.

If I decide to transfer the administration (as Kelly did to me) to say an school administrator or another student, what is going to be the easiest way? Opening a topic here or is there an option somewhere in the account? (It is not going to happen soon, just wanna know)

Another possibility I thought of was to set up an adminstrator account for the blog and then always hand over this account to the next person in charge: Is that a valid option, or does a wordpress account always has to be linked to the one person which created it?

    Cheers,
    Thomas

You’re very welcome! I’m sorry for all the back and forth and confusion during this transfer. I’m glad we’re getting it all sorted out. :)

    Kelly —

If you could organise a refund that would be wonderful and Thomas can take care of it

I issued you a full refund for the renewal. (Please note it can sometimes take 1-2 weeks for credit card companies to process refunds and show them on your statement.)

I’m not sure why I am not receiving any emails from you. I’ve checked all my accounts and I didn’t get a confirmation, or notification of an update from this thread.

About the emails — we send all emails to the email address in your account settings. I noticed that’s a Gmail address, and sometimes emails from WordPress.com can end up in Gmail’s Social or Promotions tabs (or in the Spam filter). You might want to check there if you haven’t already.

    Thomas —

If I decide to transfer the administration (as Kelly did to me) to say an school administrator or another student, what is going to be the easiest way? Opening a topic here or is there an option somewhere in the account?

If you decide to transfer ownership of the site to someone else, you can either start the process by contacting us directly or by following our guide to transfer your site to another WordPress.com user or account. (With the second method, you’ll start the transfer from your site’s dashboard and we’ll follow up via email to confirm everything.)

Another possibility I thought of was to set up an adminstrator account for the blog and then always hand over this account to the next person in charge: Is that a valid option, or does a wordpress account always has to be linked to the one person which created it?

That’s certainly an option. Just be sure that the person you hand the account over to checks that all of the account details are up to date, and that the password is secure. (The new account owner should also have access to the email address on the account, and I’d recommend having them reset the password so only one person has access to the account at a time.)

I’m also sending you an email with more details about the payment request for the site’s upgrades.

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help! :)
