Renewing a domain in redemption
-
Hello,
I am trying to re-purchase a domain for my site that I cancelled earlier this month. However, there is no option for this in my purchases and the domain search still says the domain is in redemption. How do I go about re-purchasing/renewing this domain?
Thank you.

Hi there,
Are you speaking of slingshoteducation.org?
Cancelled domains are not released immediately, and it can take anything from a few days to over a year before a cancelled domain becomes available again, if at all. You should never cancel a domain that you still want to use, as there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to use it again somewhere else in future.
slingshoteducation.org is currently in redemption at the registry. That’s the last phase in the cancellation and expiration process before a domain is deleted and made available for purchase again.
We can still recover the domain from redemption at this point, but we must pay the registry a $80 redemption fee to get the domain back from them. You’ll also need to pay the renewal fee again that was refunded when you cancelled the domain.
Let me know if you agree to this fee, and I can send you a link to make the payment so we can recover your domain.
Your other option is to wait – this domain should come out of redemption around 19 March, and will be available for registration a few days later. However, at that point anyone will be able to register it, and if someone has the domain on back-order at another provider, it will be registered for them the moment it’s released. So while you can wait, you run a very real risk of losing the domain when you do that.
Please let me know how you’d like to proceed.
