renewing domain
-
Hi there, I accidentally let my domain expire. I have just renewed it (belatedly) and added my new payment info — how long will it take before my website is live again? Thank you!
-
Hi @flowerfolkherbs, would you confirm what domain you’re referring to? The one listed on this account expired in October, and has not been renewed. It’s in redemption and would cost an additional $80 to renew right now.
What would you like to do? Also, did you make this other purchase with a different account?
-
Thanks for your reply — the domain is: http://www.flowerfolkherbs.com (NOT flowerfolkherbs.wordpress.com)
I would like to go ahead and renew it. I think before there was an old credit card associated with it which is why it perhaps did not auto-renew?
In any case, please let me know how I can renew it and submit payment.
Thank you! -
Your domain flowerfolkherbs.com expired on November 25. We sent several email warnings both before and shortly after it expired.
Domain expiration is a lengthy and complicated process that takes about 90 days. You can learn more about expired domains here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/
The good news is that we are still able to recover your domain, as it is currently in the Redemption period: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/#redemption-period
A late renewal fee of $80 will be added to the regular price of renewal. This fee is charged by our domain partner and is not one which we can waive. That’s in addition to your annual domain renewal from us, so the total is going to be $98.
I have sent a payment request for the total of $98 to the email address on your account. Once the payment is received, we will send a note to our domain partner regarding flowerfolkherbs.com. This process only takes about 2-3 days start to finish.
-
Ok, thank you very much. I just submitted my payment.
As a side note, the email address where the payment request and other notices have gone is an old address that hasn’t been used for years. How can I update my contact info?
-
Payment received! I have contacted our registrar partner, and we’ll let you know as soon as the domain has been recovered.
The emails are being sent to the email address on your account, which you can change at https://wordpress.com/me/account
-
Wonderful – thank you!
One more question: I just tried to update my email address through the link you sent… and that info is linked to my old website (www.flowerfolkherbs.wordpress.com) When I tried to change the email info to my current address it says “That email is already in use.”
So, I’m wondering if I have two active WordPress accounts, and things have somehow become confused? I only need the account that is associated with the domain http://www.flowerfolkherbs.com (not flowerfolkherbs.wordpress.com)
Thanks again!

Sorry, one more question: I just got an update from my website builder (Weebly) for flowerfolkherbs.com and they told me this:
“Your domain seems to be with Wild West Domains and the DNS is currently pointed at GoDaddy servers.”
So I am totally confused… I thought it was with wordpress?…
-
Wild West Domains IS what handles WordPress domains, so that’s okay. You need to change where it’s pointed, that’s all. Right now it’s pointed to a GoDaddy-hosted WordPress.org site, not a WordPress.com site.
-
Ok, thanks! How do I change how it’s pointed and who do I contact? Also, why has my site been up and running before without repointing it? I thought I just needed to renew it to keep it going?
-
If it helps, this is the info I received from Weebly that I should share with you (I think? or Wild West?…):
Hello, I have purchased my domain http://www.flowerfolkherbs.com from you. I have built my website on Weebly.com. I need you to:
* Point my domain to the following IP: 199.34.228.44This is done by changing my domain’s A-Records. I am not requesting that you transfer my domain, redirect my domain, or change my name servers. I want to remain with you as my domain registrar. For more detailed information, please see https://www.weebly.com/app/help/topics/how-to-use-a-domain-you-purchased-elsewhere.
-
Okay, reading over the whole thread it seems the website you want to use is actually a Weebly site hosted at GoDaddy? Not a WordPress site at all? Is that correct?
-
Honestly, I am confused how it all works because it was set up by someone else for me many years ago, so I’m sorry I don’t have all the details.
My original website was through WordPress (as flowerfolkherbs.wordpress.com) but then I purchased the domain flowerfolkherbs.com.
My current website is built through Weebly, but I am not sure who is hosting the domain. I get renewal notices through WordPress. I thought it was all re-pointed a few years ago.
Can you tell from your end what is happening? I did just pay the renewal fee to WordPress and am hoping that I can get my site back up ASAP. Thanks for any insights!

Your domain, flowerfolkherbs.com, is registered with us through Wild West Domains.
At the moment it’s showing GoDaddy’s DNS, because it reverted to that when the domain was removed from your account after it expired.
We have emailed Wild West Domains to ask them to restore the domain to our account. Once that is done, the DNS on the domain will be switched back to us and the domain will start showing your Weebly site again.
For now, all we can do is wait for Wild West Domains to restore the domain to us, and that can take up to 48 hours.
My current website is built through Weebly, but I am not sure who is hosting the domain.
Weebly is hosting your site, i.e. your site’s files are on their servers, but we are hosting your DNS, i.e. we control the records that tell your domain what provider’s servers it should be pointing you. That DNS is currently disabled due to the domain itself no longer being in our control. As soon as we control the domain again, the DNS hosted on our end will start working again.

Hi @flowerfolkherbs, I just wanted to let you know that your domain has been restored, and you can manage your payment and renewal options by going to My Account > Manage Purchases here: https://wordpress.com/me/purchases
I hope that helps and please reach out again if you have any further questions.
-
Thank you so much! I see that my website is back up and running. Thank you for all the additional info and help along the way! Much appreciated.

One more question: I am trying to make sure that my current email address is attached with this account, but I am unable to change it in the settings. It says that the email is already in use with another account…?
Would you be able to change it for me? I would like all future communications regarding this account to be sent to: (email visible only to moderators and staff) (and not to my very old hotmail account.)
Thank you!

Hey there,
You will have to log into your other WordPress.com account that is connected to the email you provided and free the address up for use by replacing it with a different one.
For more information on this process, please visit:
Do you know the WordPress.com account that the email is currently connected to?
