Renewing domain name for website

    Hi, our domain name expired and we would like to reclaim it. However, it says our previous domain name is unavailable to reclaim, and we need to file a form with the ICANN. However it has been more than 30 days since the domain name expired and the name should be available for us to reclaim. Has anyone else experienced this? Do we just need to file the form?

    Are you speaking of datenightchina.com?

    That domain expired on 27 September, and I’m afraid at this point it’s no longer possible to recover that domain at all.

    Expired domains go through a lengthy process that lasts around 80 days, and your domain is already at the last stage of that process – it’s currently awaiting deletion at the registry, and once it enters that stage, it cannot be reactivated any more, and you’re no longer considered the domain’s owner.

    Within a few more days the registry will release the domain. At that point it becomes available again so that anyone can buy it as a new domain. So your only option at this point is to check daily whether the domain has been released yet, so you can re-register it as soon as it drops. However, note that should someone else manage to register it before you, they will become the new owner and you’ll lose the domain for good.

    I’m not sure what ICANN form you’re speaking of, but ICANN cannot help you in this case. ICANN is not a domain provider, but a regulatory body that makes the rules and policies that domain providers and domain registries have to follow.

    If you felt we, as your domain provider, dealt unfairly with you or took an unauthorised action regarding your domain, you could lay a complaint against us with ICANN, which they’d then investigate, etc. But they can’t do anything regarding a domain that followed the normal expiration process, in accordance with their own regulations.

    Thank you for the reply and information! I will wait and check daily to see that we can claim the domain back before anyone else.
