Renewing domain names

I had my domains (fedzcomic.com and educationissalesmanship.com) to automatically renew with a credit card that was cancelled due to fraud. Now I learn they have expired. I don’t check my primary e-mail address very often, so WHY DIDN’T WORDPRESS SEND ME A NOTIFICATION TO MY ALTERNATIVE E-MAIL ADDRESS OR TRY TO CONTACT ME VIA MAIL OR E-MAIL? I followed the ‘renew’ link from the notifications and they sent me to a page that had nothing to do with renewals. How can I get this done?

  • Hi there,

Both us and our domain provider sent multiple reminder emails before these domains expired, but we can only send those to the email address associated with your WordPress.com account and the email address specified in your domain contact information. A WordPress.com account is only associated with a single email address, and we don’t have any alternative email on file for your account.

Both those domains have already been removed from our system and completely deleted by the registry, so there is no longer any way for us to restore them to your account.

But it doesn’t appear that either of them has since been bought by someone else, so you should be able to re-register them as new domains at My Site ->Manage ->Domains ->Add

Actually using your instructions I could re-register the educationissalesmanship.com domain but not the fedzcomic.com domain through the WordPress system. It was simply not available. I would put a screenshot here but apparently your system doesn’t support it.

So I went to Godaddy and registered it quite easily there, and it was cheaper. WordPress has always seemed very clunky to me so this little disparity doesn’t surprise me.

In the future, it would be nice to be able to enter an alternate e-mail address and phone number so we can be notified in case we’re not checking the primary.
