Renewing domain on wordpress.com and transferring to bluehost

    Hi, my domain (JordanMeerdink.com) expired. I want to renew my domain for the next year and transfer the domain name to another website built on the wordpress.org platform. How do I do this?

    Our logs show you cancelled the domain upgrade on the day the domain expired, 24 June. That is why you’re unable to renew it. There is a grace period of 18 days after domain expiration where you can still renew it yourself, but not if you cancel the domain, which removes it from our system.

    It doesn’t look like the domain is in redemption yet, which should have happened 5 days after you cancelled it, so maybe you’re lucky. I’ve emailed our registrar to try and get it back. If they’re able to restore it, I’ll send you a link via email for the renewal cost.

    However, if you’re not lucky and the registrar says the domain is in redemption, or if it goes into redemption between now and them receiving my email, there’s an additional $80 fee before they will restore the domain. But I’ll let you know once I receive their reply.

    Due to the way domain renewal and expiration work, the Whois data can show the domain as only expiring next year until the domain enters the final cancellation phase. So the expiration date in Whois does not necessarily match the expiration date of a user’s subscription. If a user posts about an expired domain, please modlook the thread so we can double check this.

  • I’ve heard back from our registrar, and the domain is already in redemption with them, so you’ll need to pay the $80 redemption fee in addition to the renewal fee to get the domain back.

    Please let me know if you agree to that fee, then I’ll send you a payment link so we can get the process started.

    If you want to leave the domain registered here and just point it to your self-hosted site, you can do that, or you can transfer it away from us completely if you prefer. Instructions for both options can be found here:

    There is a possibility that our domain registrar might have applied a transfer lock to your domain when restoring it. If you receive a message that the domain is locked when you try to transfer, please let me know and I’ll follow up with them.

    Hi, It seems like the there is still a transfer lock on the domain. Can you please have it lifted?

  • Thanks for letting me know. I’ve emailed our registrar to try and get that lifted.

    In the meantime, please look at the other options at the link I gave above to point your domain to another provider. If you need any help adding the name servers or IP Addresses, please let me know.

    I’m still having trouble transferring the domain. Is it possible to transfer the name servers to blue host in the meantime?

    Wild West Domains, Inc. should be able to provide the reason why the transfer

  • I checked everything on our end, and the domain is unlocked, privacy disabled, so you should be able to transfer it.

    Can you please go to the Transfer Domain section and cancel the current transfer. Then restart the process, and give the transfer code to Bluehost again. Let me know if it still won’t work, but from everything I can see it should work.

    I see you’ve already added the Bluehost name servers to the domain, so it should start showing your Bluehost site soon if it isn’t already.
