Renewing Domains – expires in 4 days

Every year the staff of the Sonora Review changes. The person originally responsible for creating our wordpress account has long since moved on, and we have no ability to contact them. Why can’t we renew the domain by some other method? Every year we have this issue, needing to spend hours navigating the site all in vain of finding an alternative method of renewing the domain for another year. Can someone please help us renew the domain and change our subscription so that it auto renews? This is a frankly absurd problem that our staff must deal with year after year, and we now only have 4 more days until our domain expires. Thanks in advance for your help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Companies, associations and groups of any kind do not own blogs. Every wordpress.com site has a sole owner. It is the person who registered the site.

The blog’s actual owner can transfer the site to another username account provided that username account has first been added as an official user of the blog https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#adding-users-to-your-site with Admin status. https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator
http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account and then our Staff can transfer the upgrade so it can be renewed.

It’s up to you to contact the blog’s owner and have them act on this.

Thanks for the response. But do you not see how this policy particularly affects domains such as ours, a volunteer/graduate student run website that transitions to different individuals each year? Hundreds of literary magazines such as ours are in the same position. When this domain was created, WordPress’s policy was different and did not require the creator of the website to renew the subscription. By the time the policy was changed, 6 years had passed, and no one at the University of Arizona, including our administrative assistants, have any idea who established the domain. So we have no means of contacting the blog’s owner. It is impossible. Is there truly no workaround to fix this issue? And why was this policy so abruptly changed? It seems to create an issue where no issue existed before. And are we powerless to change the domain’s owner?

@sonorareview in a case like this, I would recommend setting an email address for the organization, and letting the organization determine (carefully) who has access to that account.

In fact it it looks like someone may have done that. Can you check with the others there to see who can access the address? It’s the one that has been receiving expiration notices.
