Replace a domain name already owned with another
-
I have a WordPress site with a custom primary domain name via another host/domain name provider (that replaced the original wordpress domain name). I am not on a plan but with my current owned domain name I can access CSS etc. I am also using a theme that I paid for from another theme provider that also isn’t WordPress. I am wondering if I can change the primary domain name without it affecting the control over the site I already have with the theme I have with another primary domain name (also from a the other host/domain name provider).

Hi there,
I did not see you mention it, but what is the URL of the custom domain you wish to use? When I look under your WordPress.com account, I see only the following:
– https://artistlukewalsh.wordpress.com/I do not see any sites on your WordPress.com account that use a custom address instead of the
WordPress.comwe assign when you create your site with us.Is it possible you created your site under a different login? Is it the case that you are using another provider like GoDaddy, Bluehost, Hostgator, etc. instead? What is the URL of the site you are needing help with?
Happy to check in our system so we can take a closer look.

Thanks for replying. Let’s posit the following
guy signs up to wordpress
guy buys domain name on another site.
guy gets the site to point doman name at wordpress site as he is also buying some other guy’s theme off of him
then somehow he ends up with a site, that looks cool and everything he sort of wanted it to be
but it’s always bugged him the first domain name he bought
and he wants to change it
but it gets all complicated
with facts and figures and such like
like he is gonna lose out finanfcially if he changes the doma9in name
so he’s just lookin about for some advice and studd -
Hi there,
We need you to be more precise. We need to know the address or the domain of the site you’re referring to to determine if it’s hosted by us (WordPress.com) or some other provider.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Though no, ‘we’ don’t need to be more ‘precise’. I have seen other rhetorical questions answered on here. I’ve explained the situation clearly enough. They do this in science class. Hypothetical problems that apply to a given set of parameters can be solved without details – in fact that factor was covered: “hosted by us (WordPress.com) or some other provider.”
Have a good day.
