replace content with fresh import
-
Hi there,
I created a new blog and imported all my content (from my old blog) without realising I needed to replace the defunct domain. I understand that I can export my content and then do a search and replace (replacing old domain with new domain) but wondering the best steps to do this:
1) If I just import that content again with it replace the existing content or will 2 copies be created?
2) If I need to get rid of the existing content – how can I delete just the posts and not the images? So that when I reimport the content the posts still contain the correct references to the images
I couldn’t find any specific help on this so I hope you can offer a pointer in the right direction.
Kind regards,

Would you mind providing a link to the site in question and explain what the problem is with a specific example?
1) If I just import that content again with it replace the existing content or will 2 copies be created?
If the post IDs are the same, the importer should recognize and not re-import duplicates.
2) If I need to get rid of the existing content – how can I delete just the posts and not the images? So that when I reimport the content the posts still contain the correct references to the images
You can use the bulk-edit tool to delete just the posts.

Thank you for the response:
So – if post-ids are the same will the importer replace the fresh content with the old content?

Sorry! I mean will the importer replace the old content with the fresh content in the xml file (I am sure you know what I mean?)

Hello! Kathryn is out, so I’m taking over for her!
So – if post-ids are the same will the importer replace the fresh content with the old content?
No, the importer will skip any existing matching post IDs.
I hope that clarifies things!
