Replace my primary WordPress.com account associated with self-hosted blogs

  • Unknown's avatar

My primary WordPress.com account, team08folks, is associated with both my primary email ((email visible only to moderators and staff)) and with a self-hosted site (albuquirky.net) I share with my discussion group members. I would like to get rid of team08folks entirely, but I still need a WordPress.com account in order for the APIs and other WordPress.com services to work with my self-hosted site. I also want to re-use my (email visible only to moderators and staff) email address with a new primary albuquirky WordPress.com account. I cannot find a way to meet these requirements. Please advise.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hey team08folks,

Your self-hosted WordPress website is connected to WordPress.com with a few different ways.

If you use Jetpack plugin, you need a WordPress.com account and that’s how your website gets connected to WordPress.com.

If you don’t want your website connected to your email, you can remove it by deleting Jetpack and reinstall it using a different email address.

Thank you. I’ve tried that. After clicking the Activate button for the new installation for Jetpack, on the ‘Completing connection’ page, it will not accept when I choose my (email visible only to moderators and staff) account. It repeatedly defaults to team08folks.

The dialog says, “Connecting as team08folks” and returns to this after I use the “Sign in as a different user” option.

I would like to delete team08folks but am unclear what effect that will have on my other two sites that appear to have a dependency on it. The other two sites are self-hosted but get their wordpress.com connection from team08folks. I may risk it. I’ll back up the other sites first.

  • Hi there,

You first need to change the email address associated with the team08folks account so that you can use the current email address with your new account. Here’s how to do it:

    Change Your Email Address

Then, after creating the new account I can disconnect the Jetpack sites from your old account so that you can connect them to the new one.

If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.
