    Hi there,
I would only like to keep the admin view. How may I replace’ My site’ view with admin view? They are two different versions?
    Please advise.
    Thank you.

    hi,

You can get to Admin view by going to finservaiiot.wordpress.com/wp-admin

    Hi There,

Thanks for your note. Issue isin’t of finding an admin view. It’s about merging the two views (i.e. what people see and what I create as an admin) into one.
What I see as an admin is what I’d like people to see. Can you help with this?

    Thanks!
    Ankita

Right now, there are two different views.

Hello there @ankitatyagi021, it isn’t possible to merge the two dashboards (My Sites and WP Admin).

The only people who can view the dashboard of your WordPressdotcom site are people you have invited to collaborate in a user role (Admin, Editor, Author, Contributor). What those users see in your site Admin dashboard depends on their user role. Viewers or Followers of your site do not have any access to your Admin dashboard.

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

Hope that helps but let us know if you have any other question about this.

    @catkiinson
    – the other thread you linked to is already closed as a duplicate thread. Thanks.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I agree with your assessment but for some reason, I now have two different views. Because, ideally what I created as an admin is what should have also been ‘My Site’ view.

However, for some reason- I have two different views and despite repeated attempts, have not been able to fix ‘My site’ view to admin view.
Basically, order of pages is switched around in ‘My Site’ view, but in ‘admin’ view, it’s the same.

    Kindly help.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Ankita

Hello again, is this for the website finservaiiot.wordpress.com ? If so, “My Site” cannot be “fixed” to be the same as WP Admin. They are two entirely separate dashboards.

If I am not understanding you correctly, please take a screenshot of what you see and upload it to your site’s Media Library. Then please return here and add the MODLOOK tag for Staff assistance. Do not share the link to the dashboard as it may contain sensitive information. Thanks.

    Hi there,

Yes, that’s the website. I got that… that the two views are different and one can’t be ‘fixed’ to another. Question was, why are there two views and how to fix this duplicity, besides cleaning out content and re-starting.

In any case, will try the screen shot route. Stay tuned.

    Thanks!

Screen shot now available in ‘Media’ section.

    MODLOOK. Also added tag.

    As always, thank you!

  • Hi ankitatyagi021, there’s nothing to fix. We have two different administration areas. The “my sites” view is called Calypso. It’s a newer interface designed to manage multiple sites and work more like our mobile apps. It has some nice preview options.

The other one is wp-admin, which has been around for a long time.

Some people prefer one and some prefer another. Some even switch between the two depending on which they like better for the task at hand.

It’s a matter of preference, and to allow folks their preference, we will not be merging the two in the forseeable future. And as Jen has stated, there is no way for you to merge them on your own either.

But you can pick which one you’d like to use, and use that. A bookmark is probably the easiest way to do this.

  • Oh and to address this:

how to fix this duplicity, besides cleaning out content and re-starting.

I’ve confirmed you only have one site on this account. So if we’re talking about the same thing (two admin views) please do not try to clear out your content. They are two tools to manage the same site, so if you delete content with one tool, it will be gone from the other as well.

If it helps you can think of it like you would think of accessing your site from a phone or a computer. The fact that you can access it from both doesn’t mean your site is duplicated. They’re just two different ways to access the same thing.

    Hello Supernova and Jen,

Thank you for your detailed answer. Please take a look at the screen shot, that I’ve posted under Documents in Media.
What I am seeing as an ‘admin’ is a desirable view. But I see something different in fiinservaiiot.wordpress.com
I’ve tied to customize this latter view and that (as you may know), takes me to wp-admin….and there, I see the correct view. So here is the conflict. It seems like all is well in both admin and wp-admin view but user view is different and there is no way to change it.
I would like ‘About’ ‘Research’ and ‘Contact’, listed in that order on the green bar. ‘Research’ would be all hyperlinks, each leading to a new blog posting / research insight (with paid access… eventually).
Please let me know if this clarifies the problem a bit more.
Thank you, I know both you and Jen are trying to help me. Much appreciated!

    Regards,
    Ankita

If all else fails…I’ll just keep using admin view.

  • My suggestion would be to create a new page for each of those items that you want listed in the site menu. You can then add those page links to the menu with custom text.

Thanks! But the original issue stands. What I see in admin, wp-admin is not being reflected in follower view, even though it should.
I’ve also tagged MODLOOK and enclosed screen shots as requested, previously.

Can a staff member resolve this issue in its entirety?

    Thanks,
    Best

  • The screen shots you provided are for the Customizer Preview, and the My Site Preview. No visitor to your site can see either of those specific views of your site, as they’re both in the dashboard that only you have access to.

The preview you see when you click View Site from My Sites is the live version of your site that appears without the sidebar menu when someone visits https://finservaiiot.wordpress.com/

The reason it does not match the preview you see in the Customizer is because you haven’t yet published the changes you made in the Customizer. If you go to My Site ->Customize you’ll see the button at the top says Draft Saved, rather than Published. That means you’ve made changes in the Customizer, but you haven’t yet activated those changes on the live site.

Go to My Site ->Customize and click the gear icon at the top. Select the Publish option, and click the button that will then say Publish.

Thank you! This makes sense. So, perhaps, when I finally publish, this won’t be an issue. But I guess, in draft phase, it doesn’t matter.

    Much appreciated!

  • Ankita – Right. Only you are seeing those views as kokkieh mentioned above.
