Replace ‘Top Posts & Pages’ Widget
-
In the right sidebar, my pages provide a list of Top Posts & Pages. I knew how to change that in the old WordPress. I am lost in the new one. I can’t seem to find that widget.
I think I have to belong to WordPress.org to install the classic widgets package.
I’m afraid to make a wrong move. I came to WordPress from Blogspot partly because Google began wrecking that site with changes like this, resulting in weird side effects. I’m seeing the occasional blog post where WordPress inexplicably strips out all backslashes (a killer in a Windows-oriented tech blog like mine). It’s making me nervous.
Could you kindly give me a nudge toward the place where I need to be, in order to replace that list of top posts with a list of most recent posts? That’s all I want to do.
TIA.

Hi there,
Could you kindly give me a nudge toward the place where I need to be, in order to replace that list of top posts with a list of most recent posts?
There is not really a legacy widget option for recent posts, but instead you can add a new block (the one you want is called “Latest Posts”) as a first step, to make sure that you have added it correctly and it appears as you wish.
In case you are unsure I recorded a video at this link, showing how to add a title (heading) and latest posts block to create the widget: https://d.pr/v/vNQSFI
Once that is added an you are happy with it, you can delete the Top Posts widget by clicking on it to reveal the toolbar that contains the widget options, then clicking the “…” icon to find the option to remove it.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
