Replacing a deleted image

  The following behaviour is driving me up the wall right now.

  1. I upload an image. Call it “image.jpg”.
  2. For some perfectly good reason, I delete that image from the media library.
  3. I upload the same image again.
  4. WordPress decides to rename the new version “image1.jpg”.

  Why rename it? There is no name clash, because the original image isn’t supposed to exist anymore.

  I am guessing, but I get the feeling this isn’t so much a search for information as an expression of opinion, and that’s best shared with the staff directly.
