Replacing a PDF with a new version deleting the old version

I’m trying to replacing a PDF with a new version + delete the old version.
The path to the old version is not accessible:
    https://msmcameraclub.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/msmcc_membership_form_rev__8-7-10.pdf

Also cannot make a link that calls the new version which I put in Media Library.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

I recommend you head to the classic dashboard to manage your media items. You can do this at Media > Library:

    https://msmcameraclub.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

It won’t be possible to upload a new PDF, while using the same URL. So when you locate the URL for your new PDF, you’ll need to use that instead.

Let me know if you could use a hand!

    Hi Chris,

Thank you for your help. It clarified the issue for me, and I was able to do what I wanted.

What confused me was that they add a date/folder to the path in the final URL.

I expected a standard folder tree, and was lookng for it – silly me.

They also make changes to file names (all lower case, replacing spaces with “-” and adding numbers to the end of filenames, etc).

I understand the need for them but nowhere did I find an explanation.

It would be very useful to have this stuff explained – somewhere easily found – before using WP for the first time, or any time, really.

Is it because I use the “just shut up and do simple things” free version?

After 25+ years in the computer industry, including extensive web work, that approach doesn’t cut it for me.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Stu
