Replacing menu items with images

  I want to repalce the main menu items (Home, About and Contact) with customized fonts I’ve saved as pngs.
  I tried:
  #topnav li a:link,#topnav li a:visited {
  background:url(‘http://flowersconnexion.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/menu_home_up.png’) repeat 0 0;
  }

  But nothing shows up.
  Also how can I get rid of the original menu text and still keep the button/link working?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
