Replacing old website with new website

    Hi there,
I have built a website on WordPress to replace my clients old website on google sites.
In order to reroute the new website to replace the old website, do I need to pay £85? If so, is this a one off payment?
With it being a client’s website, I don’t want to keep charging £85 a year to run his website on wordpress.
Sorry, new to using wordpress for business.
    Thanks,
    Alice

  • Hi Alice,

If you are trying to use the custom domain of the old website for the new WordPress.com site, you need to have a paid upgrade. Is that what you want to do?

All of the paid plans comes with one domain credit(registering a new domain or mapping a existing domain). Therefore, the Premium plan(which costs £85 per year) is not the only choice. The cheaper plan(the Personal plan) is fine too. Please kindly check here once and consider which plan is the best for your client.

I hope this info helps you.

    Thanks,
    Yuki

Thank you for the swift response, thank you.

I’m looking at starting a business creating/ improving websites using WordPress. Is it common to use wordpress for clients? And is it reasonable/ the norm to get clients to pay annually for their wordpress plan?

    Sorry for all the questions!

    Hi theblackhorsecherhill,

You’ll need to upgrade to the Personal, Premium or Business plan to use a custom domain name on the WordPress.com site.

After you upgrade, you can follow these instructions to map the domain name: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
