replacing set images

I am currently using the Balloons theme, and i wanted to remove the balloons and replace them with my own images. i have read a topic thats has been closed off of discussion but they mentioned that i have to go and edit the css codes myself. i tried but have failed, so i was wondering how i would go on about doing that. i currently removed the balloons at the moment. and i do have the custom design upgrade.
