Replacing the search box at top of twenty eleven theme

I want to replace the search in the header with text describing the number of comments on two of the pages on my blog. What do I need to do in order for that to be possible? I’ve read this but can’t get past the first step:

Unfortunately, the document you’re referring to are instructions for how to create custom php entries for a self-hosted WordPress.org blog. Here at WordPress.com users aren’t allowed to edit their php files for security reasons.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities. Please check out the following links to learn the differences.

http://get.wp.com/Unfortunately, there is no way for you to replace the search box with a widget in your current theme. You could, however, place a widget in your sidebar with the content you want to add.
