replies to comments not reaching their authors. what to do ?

hi..i am absolute rookie with blogging. i have started getting comments on some of my posts. but i dont know how to reply them. the people who have commented are never able to read my replies. is there a way in which the can be notified by mail that i have replied to their comments..? if yes please explain how to..

Hi,
When someone leaves a comment they have an option “Notify me of follow-up comments via email.”. If they check this box then they will receive notification of comment replies – you don’t need to do anything.To reply to the comments you can just go to your blog post and “reply” to the comments by a follow-up comment yourself. Alternatively in the dashboard “comment” view when you hover over a comment a “reply” link appears.

but please clarify that if they have NOT clicked on ‘notify me of follow up comments’ , will they receive a mail if i ‘reply’ via a ‘follow up’ comment or using the ‘dashboard link’

No, I don’t think they will receive an email unless they check the “notify me” check box. This applies to comments entered either from the post page or on the dashboard.
