Reply to comments option missing

    I’m a newbie making my first post. Oddly, the Comments option does appear at the bottom of my post on my homepage (http://blog.davidwilkie.com) but does appear if I go to that post’s dedicated page (http://blog.davidwilkie.com/2013/11/27/i_run_for_nikki/).

    Is that normal? I’d like for there to be the option to leave comments in either case.

    I’ve searched these forums and there are plenty of posts on the topic of missing comments, but all of the proposed solutions seem to require a technical understanding I do not possess.

    If anyone has an idea on how to fix this and could explain it someone who only knows the basics, it would be greatly appreciated!

    Your blog is operating correctly. Unless you use P2, a twitter-like theme comments are collapsed on the front page of the blog. The way the comments function is coded into the core of WordPress. By clicking the post title or the comments link the posts on the front page open on their own page where all comments display.

    In a new blog one does not have many posts or comments. In an established blog if the comments did not collapse on the front page it would become a mile long in no time flat and page loading time is a page ranking factor. We have only seconds before visitors refuse to wait and click out.

    If you are concerned readers will not find the comments section you can use a text widget to tell them how to do that and place it at the top of your sidebar.

    If you want to create threaded or nested comments see the support docs for Discussion Settings Other Options 4.

    Enable threaded (nested) comments __ levels deep- Turn on this option to allow visitors to reply to other comments inline/nested. When turned on it can allow for better discussions and responses. We suggest using a maximum of 3 levels deep. Anything higher and the theme layouts may not work as expected. Note: Enabling the setting only applies to new comments since existing comments don’t have any threading date.
