    Well, it’s easy to see why the email came back. The email address you’re sending from is *(email visible only to moderators and staff)*.

    To respond to your questions and comments:

    “You’re more likely to encounter the message you’re hinting at, about widgets not being available on a page you’re viewing in the Customizer, comes up when there’s not an area that supports widgets on the page. Do you recall whether that happened in Plane or one of the other themes you tried?”
    >>My site was either created with twenty-eleven or twenty-twelve, before I changed to Plane. I suppose I did not think to divide up the site into sidebars then, which is why I did not have any.

    “ I looked at your site on my ancient iPadMini2, both in FF and Safari, and while I did see your site’s posts on your homepage, your sidebar never came into view there. Is it possible you’ve got infinite scroll enabled? https://wordpress.com/support/infinite-scroll/ If you do, I might suggest turning it off and setting the number of posts on your site’s homepage to only a couple or 3 so that the sidebar shows up below the posts.”
    >>I DID have infinite scroll enabled! After turning it off I was able to see the sidebars. I changed it to 3, but might try 5. I’ll experiment.

    “ Another option is to not show your full post on your homepage, but only an excerpt. Let me know if that interests you.”
    >>That’s a thought! I’ll have to consider that, maybe try it out. Go ahead and send me the instructions for that, if it’s not something I can figure out myself.

    All in all, though, just the ability to Categorize my posts and to make that available to my visitors is very very nice.

    If you are replying by email, your reply should have automatically shown up there. I’m not sure why it isn’t, so I’ll mark this for Staff attention.

    STAFF: THIS IS NOT A DUPLICATE THREAD, but a continuation of the forum thread I linked to above. I don’t know why it was marked as duplicate.

    As far as excerpts go, the Plane theme doesn’t let you choose this in the Customizer (some themes give you the choice of displaying full post or excerpt there). If you want excerpts to appear on your site’s front or posts page, you’ll need to either write a handcrafted excerpt in the Post Editor (not all themes support this option) or use the More tag (Classic Editor)/More block (Block Editor).

    Either way, you will only see the excerpt on the site’s front or posts page after you publish the post. It won’t appear in the single post view.
