  Is there any way of setting it up so that you can reply directly to a comment?

  If you mean threaded comments, no.

  You can always edit the comment and reply within it, as done here: http://badsneaker.wordpress.com
  But I prefer to make a new comment to reply, perhaps starting with “@GuyWhoCommented: this is my reply to the comment where you claimed to be possessed by the spirit of Elvis…” etc.
