Repointing my domain.
-
HI, Im trying to repoint my website talkseephotography.com to my own account. It has previously been pointed to a friend account who also is an admin of the site. I was unable to just repoint it so my friend took it off her account to enable me to do it but I go through the process it says the following : ‘This domain was recently in use by someone else (my friend) and is not available to map yet. Please wait or contact support.’ I have an important event coming up very soon and need the website to be working. Please advice.

Hi thenins,
There is a waiting period after domain mapping has been removed from one account, before the same domain can be mapped to another.
If margaretmitchell1000 can login and reply here to confirm they are happy for thenins to map talkseephotography.com, we can add domain mapping to talkseephotography.wordpress.com from our side.
In the meantime, please purchase a plan from My Sites > Plans but leave the domain credit unused (as we’ll add domain mapping for you).

Hi – yes please – I confirm that I am happy for thenins to map the domain talkseephotography.com to their account. Many thanks.

Hi Gemma, I purchased the plan.
However, I did not see an option to leave the domain credit unused so I was unable to leave that unused. Please can you untick it for me before you map it? I really do want to keep the domain with Go Daddy (but mapped to the WP site) since I have just paid for two years there.
Why I could not just transfer it and map it like Margaret has done for much less money previously is beyond me? It seems like a bit of a trap to be honest, particularly as I would have been able to map a site which I kept elsewhere before for the lower price. A bit like punishing loyalty.
Thanks Nina

Hi Nina,
I have successfully mapped the domain to your WordPress.com site. As for the price of the mapping, the domain mapping upgrade used to be an individual upgrade but we have now consolidated everything into plans. Please note that as long as you have an active plan on your site you’ll be able to map as many domains as you like.
-
Hi, so you mean I can map other sites to WP at no extra cost with the plan I just bought?
Thanks for repointing it.’
Best Nina

Hi Nina, you can map extra domains to a site that has a plan. They will all point to the same site, and redirect to the primary domain.
I hope this helps! Let us know if you have more questions.

Hm… no. Not really. AS I understand it you are saying that if I point another website (my personal one for example) to this website then anyone who tried to go to my personal website ends up on the TalkSeePhotography website. If this is correct why would I want that?
-
What @fstat said was that you can add as many domains to one WordPress.com site as you want, provided you have a plan on that site.
That is not the same as pointing an existing website to another website.
If you don’t want all your domains to point to the same site, there’s no reason to do it.
