  Whenever I attempt to change the background I keep getting a message to upgrade.

  Does the free version not allow background changes or templates anymore?

  Keep getting this at the top even the theme I selected was part of the free ones.

  Hi there, that banner indicates that you need to upgrade in order to make your changes public. That’s only possible on either the full Explorer plan or the CSS add-on. Each of these needs to be renewed annually for your changes to remain active.
