Reporting a little research

When I was in the Australian Army Engineers, our motto was “KISS: Keep It Simple, Stupid.”
I have consulted with about a dozen current WordPress users, and several who have chosen another platform because they couldn’t cope with the editing process.
Also, I have found eight reviews comparing the various platforms. Not one of them put WordPress on top. Typical comments are:
    “Steep learning curve.”
“I prefer less flexibility instead of impossibility.”
    “Takes too much effort.”
    “Awkward, difficult and time-consuming.”
On the basis of these reviews, I tried Wix. Its system is based on the equivalent of the WordPress blocks, but I managed to learn it in about an hour.
I think the trouble is that the system is designed by IT people without regard to ergonomics. The first principle of this branch of psychology is: “The system should adapt to the user, not the user to the system.”
I used to do ergonomics research, and am making a pro bono offer.
Please, design an option that may lack all the bells and whistles, but is easy to use. I am happy to be a consultant. If I can learn the system in an hour, it’s a goer.
If you don’t do something like this, you risk having WordPress superseded by the other platforms. It is now a very competitive field.

  • Howdy,

There’s always a balance between creating something with the power/flexibility to build anything, and making the UI simple enough for anyone. WordPress runs 30% of the internet’s sites, so it works for some folks. But that also doesn’t mean that it works for EVERYONE and we’re always looking to improve.

Thanks for taking the time to send in your feedback. I will pass it on to to the team.

Thank you, and thank you for reforming.
I have been using WordPress since 2013, and will do so as long as I can continue with the classic editor. Please, PLEASE don’t get rid of that!
    Blocks do my block in.

…Sorry, typo. Replying, not reforming. I am in the middle of writing a new short story, which is currently more real than “reality.”
