Reporting Copyright Infringement by a Paid WordPress Blogger?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have discovered that another blogger has lifted the entire text of one of my articles and posted it at their blog, in direct violation of my copyright statement. However, since they appear to be a paying WordPress customer, there are no buttons for reporting them, as can be found on the non-paying WP blogs when I am logged in.

The “wordpress” domain is not part of this blog’s URL, but when I view source on the page, I see this: <meta name=”generator” content=”WordPress 3.4.2″ /> <!– leave this for stats –>. This leads me to believe they are indeed a paying WordPress customer.

Does this mean that WP condones copyright infringement by paying customers? If not, what recourse do I have through WordPress to get this article removed from the site which has stolen it?

    Thanks for your help!

We cannot help with any site that’s not hosted here at WordPress.com. All WordPress.org provides is free software a peer support forums. That’s it. You need to locate the web host for the site in question and send them a DMCA take-down notice.

    Here are some suggestions: http://manolofood.com/whine-journalism-and-how-to-bring-the-splashback/

Note that blog is a WordPress.ORG blog, not a WordPress.COM blog, so we can’t help directly with it and that’s why there’s no button to report it. It’s just not a part of our network.

Heavy sigh!!! But thanks for getting back to me. I did do a Whois on the site and found an email address, but got no response for several days, which is why I posted here. I did finally get a response today, so there may be some hope of sorting this out.

    Regards,

    Kat

Report them to their web HOSTS. Bloggers who steal posts generally don’t fix things, because they know they did wrong.
