Repost: Domain, site and blog confusion
-
I’m jsut reposting the below because someone said they were going to get in touch with me about it via email but they never did. Would appreciate some actual help.
I have an existing blog called frankpodmore.wordpress.com. I recently purchased a plan for a new domain from WordPress called someloserpassed.com. I want to have a website with that URL. Instead, someloserpassed.com takes me to frankpodmore.wordpress.com.
I have tried all the steps set out online and as advised by the WordPress chat AI, but when I try to transfer someloserpassed.com (domain) to a site of that same name, it tells me the site already exists. Well, it does, because I own it, yet I don’t seem to be able to access it by any method.
The outcome I want is:
- When I type frankpodmore.wordpress.com into a browser, I want to go to my existing blog at frankpodmore.wordpress.com
- When I type someloserpassed.com into a browser, I want to go to a new site of that name
Can anyone help me work out what has gone wrong? AI bot was flummoxed and called an engineer, but no one ever answered!
The blog I need help with is: someloserpassed.com

Your problem is having two different email addresses and two different accounts. You purchased the domain with the “wrong” account. Hence it is associated with the site there. In May when you posted in this forum you were logged into the other account and the email reply from staff no doubt went to the email address associated with that frankpodmore account whilst now you are logged in to this fwpodmore account,

I can see why you think that, but I have access to both email addresses and WordPress didn’t email me at either of them!
Re: the purchase, I actually only had one account at the time and created the back up one at a later date, so that can’t be the issue, either.

Hi @fwpodmore,
I see that accessing frankpodmore.wordpress.com correctly redirects to that site. However, accessing someloserpassed.com is also redirecting to the frankpodmore.wordpress.com site. I understand you’d like each domain to point to its own separate site.
You currently have a second site, someloserpassed.wordpress.com, which is on the Free plan. To link your domain someloserpassed.com to that site, please follow the steps outlined here: Move a domain to another WordPress.com site
Please note:
Once the domain has been moved, someloserpassed.com will redirect to someloserpassed.wordpress.com. If you’d like the site to appear as someloserpassed.com (instead of the WordPress subdomain), you’ll need to upgrade the site to a paid plan in order to set the custom domain as the primary site address. You can view available plan options here: WordPress.com Plans and Pricing
Let me know if you require further assistance or have other questions.
