Reposting Old Items Without Disturbing People

    Hello, all.

    I’m sorry if this is a duplicate of previous questions – I have searched and found some similar queries but I’m not 100% sure they apply to my situation, and I want to be 100% sure if I can be.

    Let’s say I’ve removed a large number of old posts from my blog by converting them back to Draft status (and let’s not go into the reason why I did that because it’s very boring and relates to my mental health and it’s something that happens from time to time). And now, having largely gotten over the bout of the thing that caused me to change them all to Draft I want to put them back again.

    (I have at least trained myself into removing the posts by converting them to Draft rather than outright deleting them now, so I can at least restore them, which I count as a small win. Don’t worry: I’m definitely not trying to run a commercial blog here.)

    Anyway, I have all these posts now lined up as Drafts, and I want to republish them all over a reasonably short period. Now I can’t just select them all and change their status back to Published because it’ll post them all with today’s date on them, so I will have to restore each one individually after back-dating them.

    My question is, not that I have a great many followers (obviously), is there a way to disable notifications so that, as I work through these old posts restoring one every few minutes, anyone who is signed up to follow the blog will not be hassled with a notification, and the old post won’t be pushed as a new one on the Reader window?

    I would appreciate any advice. If notifications can’t be completely avoided I’ll just leave the posts in Draft – they’re not worth aggravating people.

    Hi there, If your site is hosted here on WordPress.com, the way we used to do this is by first making the site Private before republishing those posts.

    These days, I’d suggest testing by subscribing to your own blog by email and in the Reader. Then, after you’ve made your site Private, publish one post as a test.

    Again, this is relevant for sites hosted here on WordPress.com.

    Let me know how that goes.

    Hi there. Sorry for the delay in replying. That’s a good suggestion and as far as I’m able to tell it seems to work. Even so I think I may just republish the old posts periodically just in case (that way if it is still sending notifications at least they’ll be sporadic). Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
