REQ: Photobucket support

  • Unknown's avatar

    I looked for the feedback link everyone keeps talking about on the dashboard, but i couldnt find it. So im posting here, hope none minds :)

    Anywhooo id like to request that Photobucket is added to the supported websites please. Currently im using Slide.com for my slide shows, but id much rather use Photobucket, especially since im paying for photobucket hehe.

    I’ve been using them for ages now and i prefer them over all the other image hosts ive used over the years, including Slide.com.

    There support isnt the best in the world, but then in all the time ive been using them (nearly 2 years now i think), ive never had to call on support for a problem.

    While i can use photobucket to host my static images, i cant use them for my slide shows, would be nice if i could have them all together in a nice and tidy bundle.

    I’d also like to request a photobucket slide widget for the same reasons.

    Many thanks

    Directly underneath “sign out” and “my profile” at the top right of the screen is a tab marked “feedback”.

    @first post

    For clarification, you’re asking for a Photobucket sidebar widget that does slideshows?

  • Unknown's avatar

    What browser, browser version, OS and security programs are you using please?

    I think they’re asking for both photobucket slideshow support for the post content as well as the widgets in the sidebar.

    Best bet would be to submit a feedback on Monday and make this suggestion. Staff has said that they keep track of requests made in that matter.

    Yeah support for both in posts and a widget would be good, but mainly in post which is where i use them the most.

    I’ll drop a feedback post tomorrow now ive found it :)

    @tiamatsdisciple: as an indirect solution, you might be able to do

    photobucket.com -> splashcast.com -> wordpress.com

    but I think wordpress.com still doesn’t support putting splashcast in sidebar widgets.

    (not sure why they don’t make all the filters that work in posts also work in sidebars)

    This might not be an acceptable solution because splashcast load times are ridiculous.

    Photobucket DOES aggressively censor images, and they have been known to threaten to destroy accounts of bloggers who question their decisions, so be aware that the service is far from perfect. I’m not saying the others are, but Photobucket has not always been known to behave in accordance with expected levels of service, to say the least.

    I’ve heard that about photobucket and experienced it with other hoists aswell. On another host who shall remain nameless i had over 2gb of images i was using for my various blogs. They just deleted my account with no warning or nothing. Would talk about it or anything. Needless to say i was fuming since i’d paid near £100 for it.

    I’ve yet to experience any problem with Photobucket though. I know they’re not perfect, and im not trying to claim they are. But lets face it, all of the free services out there have similar issues to that of Photobucket. A friend of mine who used to use Slide experienced their bad side when all of her slideshows were deleted without warning or apology. Also ive never had any issues with censoring of images, and to be honest ive never heard of them doing it. They’ll remove any that breaches their T&C, but thats just normal.

    In truth the only sure fire way to avoid problems is to go self hosting and make your own slide show with flash. Which needs a certain experience level. Since i dont havat experience, nor can afford the extra hosting at the mo, i make do with whats available.

    I’ve tried various blogs and image hosts, and out of them all WordPress.com and Photobucket have been the best ive experienced. But as the saying goes, to each their own :D

    They removed many images of mine, including an image of the Sistene Chapel, because of nudity. I mean, Botticelli’s Venus? Seriously, that’s going too far. As well, they’ve deleted images with political content in them, and when asked to clarify which terms of service the images violated, they threatened to delete my account. They never did specify which ToS had been violated, and I had asked in a genuine wish to learn so I wouldn’t continue to break them. They were actively hostile.

    I host those images at WordPress itself now. Maybe they’ll do a proprietary slideshow the way they’ve done with audio? But I thought I’d speak up because of my experience with Photobucket.

    hmmm first ive heard of stuff like that, especially given the nature of some of the images i host with them.

    *shrugs* well, some staff are good, others are bad. All you can do is try and experience for yourself. With any image host its advisable to keep back ups on other media such as pen drives or dvd’s/cd’s
