Request assisstance on which plan to choose

    Hi

    I am a student involved in some academic research. For academic purposes, I intend to develop a news website and test some recommendation system algorithms. I will require data regarding user sessions (how many pages they visited, whether they clicked on the recommendation system or not etc.). Consequently I will require some assistance in developing and maintaining the website(s). Kindly suggest me which plan should I choose.

    Hi there,

    If you plan on using specialized plugins or use a statistics platform other than the integrated WordPress.com Stats. Then the Business plan will be a perfect fit.

    Is there already a website like the one you want to build so I can have a closer look?

    Hi

    Actually we want to create a website that will be similar in design to an existing news website like New York Times or Times of India or any other popular newspaper.
    What we essentially want to do is to change the current recommendation system design which is based on metrics like number of clicks, shares etc. with a probabilistic recommendation system(we will share the logic) and check the effect of the changed logic in number of clicks received by recommended articles, dwell time for articles etc. (measures of user engagement).

    We believe we will require some plugin or API to create the newsfeed from a particular news website(s). Hence we should probably go for the Business plan. We will make the purchase and then start sharing the design details.

    Hi there,

    I don’t think WordPress.com will be the best fit for this. With the Business Plan you’ll be able to install plugins, yes, but from what you’re describing you might need to be able to build some custom API integrations, and you will very likely need to be able to edit the site’s source code directly – something that is not possible on WordPress.com in any plan.

    We also cannot advise you on specific plugins to use, and we can only provide limited support for plugins that we did not create. We don’t provide support for custom coding work at all – for that you’ll need help from a professional developer instead.
