Request AuthInfo Code. Domain cancellation.
-
Hello,
I registered the domain “www.didyouknow-agency.com” about 2 weeks ago and now need to cancel/delete this domain with WordPress again, because I need to be using a local provider here in Germany.
I realize I am not eligible for a refund of my 18,00 USD, but please let me know how I can obtain my AuthInfo Code as soon as possible.
I dont have anything saved, the entire domain and everything on WordPress associated with it can be deleted.
Looking forward to a quick reply,
Thanks a lot,

Hi there!
I’ll be happy to help you walk through the steps to transfer your domain to another domain registrar. However, ICANN (the governing body over domains) places a 60 day lock on all new domain registrations and renewals to prevent fraud, so until the 60 day period is up, we will need to change your domain’s nameservers to temporarily point to your hosting site. After the 60 days are up, you can follow these steps to transfer your domain to another registrar.
————
To obtain your authorization code you will need to go to your Store -> Domains page and follow the prompts you find there:https://didyouknowagency.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains
1. Look for Domain Administration and change the dropdown menu to “Transfer to Another Registrar”
2. Click the button “Next Step”
3. Enter a new password, putting it into both blanks (this is a new one you’re making up, so make sure to write it down)
4. Write down your Customer Number which is displayed just below
5. Click the “Save Password” button
6. Click the link for “Manage Your Domains”
7. Login with your customer number and password that you wrote down in steps 3 & 4 above
8. You will be prompted to create a PIN number
9. You should now be logged in and see a list of your domainsYou will need to select your domain, unlock it, and have the authorization code sent to your email address. There are instructions and screenshots here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#transfer-to-another-registrar
————In the meantime, can you let me know what your new nameservers (or DNS) should be and I’ll be happy to update that for you.
I know that was a lot of information, so please let me know if you get stuck or have any questions.

Hi there csonnek,
thanks for the quick reply. I thought what I needed was to register my new company domain with WordPress.com. Turns out what I am getting from a colleage is a WordPress Installation, hosted by a local provider/host.
Anyways, my main concern right now is not the site itself, but primarily getting my emails setup to the @didyouknow-agency.com domain. We have business cards in the printing right now, no way back. is there any way to obtain 4 email accounts to this domain, including server info for setup in our Mail programs?
Thanks for the support! -
On WordPress.com we do not provide email hosting, but you can connect email hosting from another provider to your custom domain. Here are instructions for using email with your custom domain:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/
If you do want to eventually transfer your domain to a new domain registrar, I would inquire whether or not they offer email hosting. When you transfer the domain, you would need to reconfigure your email hosting so having it at the same company should help make that transition a little smoother.
Please let me know if you have further questions or if anything is unclear.

Hi there again,
I was away for 2 weeks and now am back on top of this problem. Is there really still this 60 day lock on the domain, even if I it stays registered to the same person (me!)? I urgently need to transfer it to a local hoster/provider (who does email hosting, etc.); so why can I not just get the AuthInfo code and continue my work in getting a WordPress Installation including emails setup with a local hoster?thanks, pat

Hi Pat, unfortunately the 60-day lock on new domains is not something that we have any control over. This is a policy set by ICANN (the governing body over domains), and it is true for all domains (not just domains registered at WordPress.com).
In the meantime, however, you are welcome to point your domain to another website hosting provider, with these steps:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/You’ll need to obtain the name server values from your current host. You should be able to find them on their support documentation, or contact them and ask for the information. (Name servers may be referred as “nameservers” or “NS records” instead.) Once you have that information, I would be happy to help you change them to point your domain to your new hosting provider.
After you make that change, you can finish setting up your WordPress.org installation and email service with your new host, and it will work with your domain. After the 60-day lock expires, you will be able to transfer your domain to your new domain registrar, as well.
I hope this helps – let me know if you have any more questions!
