[request] Avatars: Auto-populate email info for pingbacks?
-
This post is related the other thread about default avatar for anonymous users, and I’m going to expand on the idea here, so bear with me.
In a nutshell, I want the ability to customize the avatars that display for pingbacks so that they are easily distinguishable from regular comments.
I’ve discovered a fairly easy way to do this manually by using gravatar. All I did was set up a quick @gmail.com account, use that email addy to register with gravatar, and uploaded my desired icon. Then, whenever I see a pingback, I go into the dashboard to edit that comment by entering the email for the pingback. Bingo!
It works great, but I get a lot of pings. It would be easier if I didn’t have to do this manually for each one.
So…would it be possible to assign an email addy to auto-populate in the pingback? Currently, the email info is blank, and it would be kinda neat if that email just popped in there automatically.
Even better, of course, would be the ability to skip the gravatar “cheat” altogether and allow us to upload an avatar specifically for pingbacks or even unregistered users (like the other thread, although I can understand that this would be more complicated since there may be conflict between a visitors gravatar and whatever avatar I’ve uploaded. Naturally, I’d want the gravatar to override mine).
Anyway, I hope this makes sense.
