[request] Branched Comments and Quick Theme Switcher
-
Greetings,
I’d like to suggest a couple of tweaks which can further improve WordPress.com:1) The branched comments. If you’re not sure what the hell do I mean check out this link. This branched thing is more convenient when we are talking about wide discussions because it’s easier to track answers and follow “sub-dicussions”. I am not sure if it’s an easy thing to implement, but I do know that there is a plug-in(s) for WordPress engine that add this very function.
2) A small tiny improvement to theme switching. We all love the great Preview function – it’s really awesome and all, but wouldn’t it be better if all the folks who’ve seen all the themes for a hundred of times had an ability to simply turn it on without the previewing? That’d save a bit of time (and traffic) for those with slow connection and fulfilled the needed task without extra clicking.

Have you made your suggestions known to staff by submitting them to support?
http://wordpress.com/contact-support/ (Mon-Fri 8am-4pm Pacific time) or using the “support” button in the upper right of your dashboard.
-
1) I have been wanting threaded comments since forever, but it would be a pretty major project; they’d have to re-write the comment handling code and add extra database fields, not to mention edit every single theme. So, even though I imagine the latest LJ exodus will result in another surge of requests for this feature, it’s basically not going to happen.
2) I just want the ability to go straight to page 4 of the previews (where the Sandboxes live) without having to go via another page. It irritates the hell out of me.
-
2) A “go to page” pulldown would be great, or a “go to” letter of the alphabet, such as “s” for sandbox.
-
Even a smaller “preview” page with small screenshots of themes like “picasaweb” albums look like might make it faster.

Do I have to? Aren’t they browsing the forum? I mean, I can, but I don’t want to spam to them or something.
Concerning the first point: isn’t it possible to simply install a plug-in? I’m sure there are some (or at least one). I’m not of a tech savvy, so don’t think I’m trying to be annoying :-)

Staff do read these threads but the best way to request any new feature is by using the “support” button on the top right hand corner of any admin side blog page during support hours Monday-Friday 8 AM – 4 PM, Pacific time.
-
Staff does monitor the forums, but they have said in the past that they do not write down suggestions from the forums. They have asked that they be sent in using the support system.
Here at wordpress.com, we cannot install plugins.

From the first place to look – the FAQs

from the second place to look – the forum searchbox https://en.forums.wordpress.com/search.php?q=threaded+comments

I know we cannot, but what about the staff? I think that in some FAQ entry they wrote that they can install some plug-ins if there a demand for them, didn’t they? Isn’t this a way to get branched comments?

As wank said above:

Yes they do say that. Also you can see by using the searchbox link I posted that others have requested threaded comments too. If you want to use the forum to try and rally more support for a threaded comments feature here in the English speaking forum only that’s your choice. I have seen many such campaigns flare up and then fade out and die. Good luck.
-
Yes, I’ve read those. Thanks again. I guess there’s no point in starting another campaign as threaded comments is such a tricky thing to implement. Let’s better keep the forums floodless.
-
It doesn’t matter to me if the forums are ‘floodless”. Your are free to do as you wish. But I do believe wanks’ read on this is correct.
