Request for deleted image to be removed from cache

  • Unknown's avatar

Is it possible for me to request that an image file be permanently deleted from WordPress servers/cache if the blog does not belong to me?

A friend had two photos of me on her blog.
I asked her to delete the images, she has done so and has also deleted the entire entry with my images.
The one image no longer appears when doing a google search.
The other image still appears despite the fact that the two images were deleted at the same time.

May I request the deletion of the second image from the WordPress server/cache?
I don’t own the blog though, so I’m not sure if I’m allowed to ask this.
It can be verified that the images have been deleted by having a look at the blog.

  • Hi there. I think the owner of the blog in question will have to ask here herself. She’ll also have to supply the URL of the post/image in question.

Keep in mind that the image could also be in Google’s cache, in which case staff here won’t be able to do anything about it.

    Hi there,

Thank you for the reply. I’ll ask the owner to also ask on the forum.

Regarding Google’s cache – I’ve put the URL into their content removal tool and it displays as “live content on the web” which leads me to believe that it must still be stored on WordPress’ cache/server.

But yes, I will ask the owner to make the request too. Thanks!

  • Once she posts here with the URL of the image/post, she can add “modlook” to the tags to mark this for staff. Then you just wait for them to respond. Also keep in mind the WordPress.com cache is updated every few days, so it might go away on its own even before they respond.
