Request for help deleting all content
-
For some reason I am not able to delete the ‘Homepage’.
I want to keep this site but don’t want any of the posts and pages I have now. Please delete the posts, pages, media, and comments for me.
I want to keep the site and URL active, and want a fresh start on the content creation.
Please clear out the current content as well as reset the current theme.

After more thought, I want to reset the site back to using the “Twenty Twenty-Three” theme along with the associated default pages that are created. That way I have a fresh start.
-
Hi! I’ve gone ahead and run the reset; you should now find your site (and the same URL) has the default Twenty Twenty-Three content and is ready to go.
-
Thank you! It seems to be missing 2 pages (Books and All Posts) which should also show up in the main menu.
Can please restore those, too?
-
We reset your blog per your instructions here:
I want to keep this site but don’t want any of the posts and pages I have now. Please delete the posts, pages, media, and comments for me.
Therefore, those two pages would have been deleted when we reset your blog and would need to be recreated.
I hope that clarifies things.

Ok, I understand. I now realize that I need those pages in order to understand how it works. Can you please restore them?
-
Hi there,
When content is deleted that is a permanent action, so we don’t have the option to restore specific pages at this point. However, they can likely be set up again.
Currently your homepage is set to display all blog posts by default, so this is technically the “All Posts” page at this point. Did you wish to set this up as a custom homepage, and move your posts to a different page? If so you can set that up here: https://wordpress.com/support/posts-page/
You also have the option to create custom blog pages, we cover that in a recent webinar which you can watch on our YouTube channel here: Custom Blog Pages Webinar.
Regarding the “Books” page you are referring to, since we are not able to see what you had set up recently, can you tell us more about what used to be on this page? Was it something you created manually? Or did you intend this page to show a sub-section of your blog posts focused on a category like “Books” instead?
Thanks for the additional info!

When I first created this host name the service automatically created these pages for me.
My intent here is to get back to that state so that I can understand how the default configuration works.
I am not comfortable creating new pages since I was just trying to learn how this works.
This situation happened as a result of trying other templates and the content was not being displayed consistently.
I just want the site returned back to the original configuration when a new host name is created.

Hello there,
Ok no problem – it sounds like a series of theme changes have caused this extra content.
I can reset the site for you, using the Twenty Twenty Three theme – this would involve removing all that’s there (posts, pages, media, links and comments) and reimporting the the themes demo content. Would you like to proceed with this?
You mentioned you wanted to learn how to use WordPress.com, we can certainly help with that. Can you tell me if you have any website goals in mind and what you’re looking to build? This will help us to tailor our guidance for you. :)
-
Yes, that would be great!
The simple goals I have are to be able to share updates on various projects that I am working using photos and text and links. I suppose tags and categories might be nice, too. It should not be forced into a narrow workflow. The theme should be minimalistic yet elegant.

Hey there, apologies for the back and forth here, to check – do you wish to delete the content and start a fresh on whocandenythemoon.wordpress.com? (Making sure before deleting anything on another site on the account!)

I think you’re on the right track with the TwentyTwentyThree theme in that case – less is definitely more. :)
Once the theme is installed and the content is imported, we can take things step by step on how to change things. Sound good? :)

Hello there,
I see the Twenty Twenty Three, is already in place barring three blog posts.
With that mind, what part of the site are you looking to change next? :)

Hey there, so the Books and All Content menus weren’t part the original demo content, but I did notice the demo site has a menu that links to Philosophy, whichi is one topic on the demo site. And it sounds to me like you want a menu with topics for your site, too.
Instead of finding more test content and test menus for your site, how would you feel about us helping you set it up with your real content and real menu? Do you know what topics you’d like on your site? If you’re willing, let’s get some of your content in place and then set up the menu for that.
You’ll start by publishing a few posts. They don’t have to be complex in the text, and you can always edit them later. But for each one, you’ll want a title, a bit of text, a featured image, and any relevant topics added as categories or tags. So:
- Start at https://wordpress.com/post to create a new post
- Add a title and some text
- Add a featured image (here’s how)
- Give each post appropriate categories or tags (info!)
- Publish the post
By the way, if you’re anxious about publishing anything before the site is ready, that’s fine; you can make the whole site private here if you’d like. Or you can make it live and start sharing content now. Totally up to you.
Once you have a few posts published (at least one or two for each menu topic you want, ideally), we can help you set up the menu as you’d like. Or, if you’d like to try it on your own, we have a tutorial for setting up menus here.
-
I should add too, if you really want us to do a demo content and demo links, I’m sure we can figure something out. Basically we’d be using those same steps but with dummy content. And I’m just hoping to get you closer to the real site you want. Let us know if this will work for you!
