Request for refund of Domain Renewal

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I had previously set up an auto-renewal for my blog. I hadn’t used the blog/email address linked to that blog for a very long time and didn’t see any notifications that I would be charged.

I contacted PayPal to ask them to cancel the charge while it was still processing, and I deleted my blogs as well. Today I received the charge ($26) even though the blog doesn’t exist anymore. I’d like to request a refund.

    Thank you.

Provided you are logged in under the same username account that purchased the upgrades, you ought to be able to request a refund from your dashboard > Store > My Upgrades

WordPress.com provides a 30-day refund on all upgrades except Domain Registrations, Domain Renewals, http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/cancel-domain/ and Guided Transfers.

Note: It takes from 1 – 2 weeks for the refund to be received.

Too bad you were over reactive and deleted the URL because now you will need Staff help. Otherwise this would have been easy.

What is the URL of the blog you deleted?
What was the URL of the domain in question?

I’ll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

I was just doing what PayPal told me to do in order to not get charged. I would have actually liked to contact staff directly but I can’t find a number/email.

    Thanks..

    Hey,

No sorry that’s not it. There’s a dash between raney-days. It was colourful and had DIY posts on it.

Please be patient while waiting for Staff.

    Hi there Raney,

I’m not seeing any transactions on your account after a $26 charge in January was declined by Paypal. Are you sure the charge really went through?

raney-days.com is showing as having expired over a year ago, on Feb 7, 2013 (it was not renewed).

    Cheers!

    Hey,

That’s strange.. the $26 definitely went through. The money came out of my bank account. I’ve tried talking with PayPAl but they said I had to talk directly with Word Press, as they had requested it to be cancelled. Bit confusing!

    Thanks

Aha, I see it now. It was on this account (raneyjansma), not the one you posted at first.

This is for the domain raneydaysblog.com (NOT raney-days.com). It shows it was renewed on 3/16.

I can cancel it and refund that charge, but since you haven’t deleted this second blog, I want to make extra sure that’s what you want to do first!

This cannot be undone, so please read the following carefully!

Canceling a domain after 2 days of purchase means you completely give up ownership of the domain. There is no guarantee the domain will become available to re-register after cancellation.

You are welcome to keep your domain with us and update the nameservers to point to another hosting provider by following this guide:

    Change a Domain’s Name Servers

After 60 days from the date of purchase or registrant contact information change, you may also transfer your domain to another registrar by following this guide:

Transfer a Domain to Another Registrar

If you would like to completely cancel your ownership of the domain name, please reply to confirm.

    Thanks!

Ah, sorry about that. I haven’t used either in so long and didn’t even realize there were two haha.

Yeah, go ahead and cancel it! I won’t be using it.

    Thank you!

    Okay!

I have cancelled your domain and fully refunded your purchase, as requested. Please note, it may take up to a week for the refund to appear on your statement.

The domain itself will get sent back to the registrar. The registrar will decide when to release it back to the open market, which is not guaranteed, but which usually happens within a few days.

Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with!
