Request or Suggestion – 500 Characters In Publicize Messages

    Hi Everyone,

    This post is mainly for any staff member who can route this through the right channels for a possible fix or upgrade to the Publicize part of publishing new posts, and is only posted as a request or suggestion.

    Now that Twitter is no longer supported, I am seeing, as demonstrated in my screenshot, that the character count for creating messages or notes for new published posts seems to still be set to match the 280 character count that Twitter allowed.

    I have recently noticed that Mastodon has been added into this feature and I am definitely using it (THANK YOU WORDPRESS!!). That is really awesome, and I’m glad to see that we got an alternative method to sharing new posts on another social network after support for Twitter was removed. It’s too bad what these networks like Twitter and Reddit are doing in regards to their API costs for companies that need access to make services run… but now I’m rambling and I didn’t mean to do that.

    What I wanted to suggest or request, if this can be changed, is that we now be allowed 500 characters in these messages/notes during publishing, which is the max character count that Mastodon allows. I am guessing that in order to make this feature work fluently, a character limit for publishing these messages has to match the lowest character limit allowed among the group of networks we are capable of publishing to automatically.. With Twitter no longer supported for this, it appears that now the character limit can be increased to 500 characters as I believe it’s the only one now among the ones we can send these messages out to that has a character limit.

    Thanks for reading this suggestion, and thanks again to WordPress.com for adding Mastodon into this feature, and hopefully other networks can be added to this in the future.
