Request: Update Public Suffix List to support sol.site subdomains
-
Hi WordPress.com team,
I’d like to report an issue with connecting
.sol.sitesubdomains to WordPress.com sites.The Problem:
When a user tries to connect a subdomain like
alice.sol.siteto their WordPress.com site, the system treatssol.siteas a regular domain and requires root domain verification. However, sol.siteis a public suffix — individual users only own their specific subdomains, not the root domain itself. This is similar to how
.wordpress.comor.github.ioworks — each subdomain is independently owned by a different user.PSL Status:
sol.sitehas been officially added to the Public Suffix List: https://github.com/publicsuffix/list/blob/main/public_suffix_list.datAbout sol.site:
We operate SNS (Solana Name Service), a Web3 naming platform on Solana. We provide
.sol.sitesubdomains to independent users who want to build their own websites. These users should be able to connect their subdomains to WordPress.com without needing access to the root domain. What we’re requesting:
Could WordPress.com please update its PSL data so that
sol.siteis recognized as a public suffix? This would allow individual subdomain owners to connect their.sol.siteaddresses to WordPress.com sites independently.Thank you for your help!

Based on the official list of ICANN-accredited registrars, sol.site is not listed as an accredited registrar or part of ICANN. So sol.site cannot be used on or added to the allowed TLD’s on the wordpress.com

Hi there,
Thanks for providing such a clear explanation of the issue!
I want to make sure I understand the request correctly: You’re asking us to update our internal copy of the Public Suffix List so that individual.sol.sitesubdomain owners (likealice.sol.site) can connect their subdomains to WordPress.com without the system requiring root domain verification.
This requires an update from our engineering team. I’ve filed an internal request for them to review this, and they’ll evaluate whether and when to pull in the latest PSL data that includes sol.site.
I don’t have a timeline to share right now, but I wanted to let you know the request has been passed along to the right team. If anything changes or if you have questions in the meantime, feel free to follow up here. -
Just to clarify for @staartmees — Yes,
sol.siteisn’t a TLD or registrar, so ICANN accreditation doesn’t apply here.
It’s a domain listed in the Private section of the Public Suffix List, similar to howgithub.io,netlify.app, orworkers.devwork. These are all privately-operated domains that issue subdomains to independent users, and they’re all recognized by the PSL for exactly this purpose. -
Hi @staff-hanananah, yes, that’s exactly right! We’re requesting an update to the internal PSL so that individual
.sol.sitesubdomain owners can connect their subdomains independently without root domain verification. Thank you for filing the internal request — really appreciate the quick response! No rush on the timeline. If it helps the engineering team, here’s the direct link to verify the PSL entry: https://github.com/publicsuffix/list/blob/main/public_suffix_list.dat
Thanks again!
