Requested Feature: Automatic delay/proofread period before a post goes live
-
“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.”
– Abraham Lincoln“Speak when you are angry and you will make the best speech you will ever regret.”
– Ambrose BearceI find myself improving posts 2-3 times AFTER I’ve posted them live to this blog, and they could certainly benefit from even more revision.
Most of us use Automatic Spellcheck before sending an email. What I propose is an App/Extension/Feature in WordPress that would force bloggers to wait a period of time (say an hour) after writing a post before they can actually publish it to their live blog.
When the waiting period is over, the App sends you a message in some manner asking you to reread the post for errors/rashness, and then either send or assign a further period of waiting.
A user could choose to override the service, maybe with a password – but I never would!
The App could be called “On Second Thought,” “The Other Hand,” or “Further Consideration.”
I’m going to make the same suggestion on Thunderbird for handling email.
Any chance you could implement this for WordPress.com?
Thanks, Andrew Taylor

Please DO NOT add this suggestion – no default and I need a password to publish – I would not like this at all and I think the peasants would storm the castle on this one
I review all my articles while in Draft mode – for many of them I will let them sit overnight or for a few hours – that is what draft mode is for – sometimes I will also have others review the article using the request feedback feature
-
I don’t think you read my suggestion – I clearly said that it would be an optional App.
If you don’t want it, don’t use it!
Thanks for mentioning the “Request Feedback” feature, which I haven’t used before (but it’s still not the same thing).

I did read your entire post several times
A user could choose to override the service, maybe with a password
This and your other remarks indicate that you want this as a default all the time, turn off for each Post – not an idea I even want to think about
-
Drafts and previews work well for me.
I do not support this idea at all.
I do not support adding a single iota of complexity to what already exists. -
Andrew,
Have you tried the Proofreader found in Users>Personal Settings?
It’s not perfect, but it does have a built-in spell checker and other common grammar mistakes. I submitted an idea to give the option to turn OFF the spell checker because my browser already does this and now I am having to teach WP what I already “taught” my browser. :)
There may be some who would use your suggested feature, but I hope, if WP enables it, that it would be Opt-in only. If I have any hesitation about how I am wording a post, I put it in drafts to look at later. I would not want to be bothered with a notification of this sort.

@thebirdingbunch
Suggesting the enabling Proofreader was a good idea.

I have reviewed several free spelling and grammar checkers here. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/12/12/5-free-grammar-checkers-for-bloggers-and-writers/
I’m currently using the free Grammarly Lite – Smart Spellchecker 2.32 add-on for Firefox browsers.

“App/Extension/Feature” obviously suggests it would not be mandatory. I never suggested that people should have to use it.
Regardless, thanks to all for the suggestions!
Regards, Andrew -
Maybe you were mislead by my use of the word “force” – but that would only be in force if you had it enabled.
Again, never said it had to be automatic.I would still love to have this option, and I expect many others would as well. If I’m wrong – sue me!

Understood and I still have no use for it at all.

-
I was just letting you know that I understood that you wanted this to be an option and not mandatory.
-
Well, much ado about a casual suggestion, which as you say there are other helpful tools to address.
Still, nice Ambrose Bierce aphorism, eh? -
