Required A record and CNAME record for email
-
I’ve contacted my domain host (domainmonster.com) because when I mapped my blog from domainmonster to wordpress, I lost access to my email (outlook). Domainmonster had said that if I set my domain back to them I should then be able to still map the domain to my WordPress site and also have my mailbox that I have with them and continue to function correctly.
However, I need WordPress.com to confirm that it is possible to configure my domain in this way, and to obtain the necessary records from them.
Could someone confirm if I can point my wordpress site using DNS records, and if so could I ask for the required A record and CNAME record I need to configure on my domain?
My blog is using wordpress.com

We can only support mapping via name servers, so you won’t be able to direct an A record to us.
For your email, they should be able to provide you with MX and CNAME records to direct the email bits back to them.

Hi – I’ve now got in contact with Domainmonster.com and they have advised that I need to look at my database for my wordpress.com site, where do I find this?
-
We don’t allow database access here, and there is absolutely nothing in the database that would affect email. That’s all in our DNS controls.
Why are they asking for that instead of providing you with your email service’s MX and CNAME records?
-
ok – understood – they offer a one click installer for wordpress.com on my hosting package which I have with them that allows me to use wordpress.com with them as well as my mail service.
Could you provide me with an SQL database? or where I can get it from?
I need to transfer the content over to them but still use wordpress.com
-
What they want to do is install WordPress for you and transfer all of your content over to them.
You will then be using WordPress.org, not WordPress.com.
We do not provide database access, but once WordPress is installed, you can move your content following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.

Hi
I’m really keen to keep to wordpress.com as I don’t feel I’m ready to venture over to wordpress.org just yet.
Is there any way I can keep my email and keep my wordpress.com? Maybe I need to transfer my domain?

Sure, you already have your domain mapped here, so you just need to setup your email following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/
