Reserved blog name disappeared.
-
Hello everyone,
I had signed up for a WordPress account over a year ago and reserved a particular blog site address I wanted to use. I hadn’t logged in for a while and noticed that the blog was no longer associated with my account. I tried to look it up and sure enough, it exists but it is listed as private (which is what I set it as originally) and will not let me access it. I tried ‘requesting access’ to see if the request would be e-mailed to the address I registered with and nothing happened.
Does WordPress delete your blog after a period of inactivity and let other people recycle the same blog URL again?
To be clear, my WP account was very much intact but I can’t see my old blog anymore nor can I view the page if I type in the address directly.

Okay, so stranger still, I just noticed that under Dashboard > Activity, there are truncated posts that I NEVER made. Is it possible someone hacked my account? Everything else is completely blank.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Accounts are forever – blogs are only deleted for two reasons,
1) blog owner deletes it
2) violation of the terms of serviceno requirement to use a blog to keep it
Account Recovery Page
https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery
Lost Password
https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
Log out when you try the above options
PS – someone getting your password is not a “hacked” account – just plain old steal or guess a password

Well, the blog was never deleted in the sense that the URL still exists. I just cannot access it and I don’t know why. I already know my password and logged in. That’s how I saw the weird spam posts on the Dashboard. Any computer activity used to steal data is referred to as hacking. Not sure where you got the idea that someone simply ‘guessed’ my password. I see posts listed that I did not make. Clearly, my account was hacked.

Hacked Sites
The only “hacked” sites I have seen here have been people getting the password somehow to a site so you do want to be careful how you log in and use a tough password.
You should also check to make sure that someone has not added a new user to your site. Problems have also happened when there was more than one Admin. and an Admin left on less than graceful terms.
Dashboard >> Users
Many times a users email is hacked or the password guessed and the email account is used to get access by requesting a password reset – you need to change your email password and make sure they nobody has been added to your email account.
You should also run a virus check on you PC to make sure your PC does not have a security issue that has compromised your email or WordPress.COM log-in information (also your bank etc. if you do online banking or retirement accounts)
There have also been a few Posts on “hacked” sites and it was because someone got the Post by Email address and using the Post by Email to send in new Posts, if you have Post by email disable the Post by Email and regenerate the address. Spammers have scripts the generate email addresses and they sometimes can get a valid address for a Post by Email address.
If you are really concerned you could as the staff to look at your site: http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
You could also use a secure log-in in case you are on an unsecured link: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
What’s the URL of the blog? And how many admins are there? And what kind of hack was pulled?
