Reserved Domain Name
-
Hello,
I’m trying to register a domain name. Unfortunately, I get a message that says that the domain name is reserved. I think I’m the one who reserved it but I’m not certain. How can I get a confirmation that the domain name is reserved under my name or not?
Best,
Philippe

If you do a WHOIS lookup (Google that) on the domain, you can see who it is registered to, and under what email address.
Unless the domain was registered and set to private, then you will just see the info of the privacy company.

A custom domain name (where a whois is relevant) will never show a name as reserved – the names are either registered or not
for a blog name at WordPress.COM – (name.wordpress.com) – a blog name is now reserved for the matching account name – you would need to recover your old account to get the reserved name

Hi.
Thanks for your replies!
I’m trying to start up a new blog and the name I want to use seems to be taken. However, when I search WordPress for it all I get is a message saying “Sorry this username and site is reserved.” But there’s no sign of that blog using that name. What does that mean? Is it possible for a site to be “reserved” and not show up?

Do you think by contacting Support with all the details it might be possible to free the name?
-
It means the name is reserved to match the account name – you need to own that account to get that name – or you need to contact that account owner and get them to give you the domain – – if the account was yours in the past you would need to recover that account
what is the name you can’t live without?

That account is 5 years old: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/appak
Might you have been around then?
If so you might be able to recover the account

Thanks for your reply!
Unfortunately, i wasn’t around. I’ve subscribed to WordPress in 2012.

It looks like the account is inactive for quite sometime.
If it was the case, Do you think I could ask to free up the domain name? -
Ask all you want – WordPress.COM will not give you the blog name
You need to pick a different name or you can register a custom domain name and map it to a blog here – then the custom domain name replaces the base blog name / URL
