Reserved free blog name/address
-
Around 23rd June I signed up with WordPress and reserved chocolategoose.wordpress.com. I own the domain chocolategoose.com so went to 1stdomains to have it changed across to WordPress. That was successful but now I’ve just logged on again to begin setting it all up and I can’t see my reserved address (chocolategoose.wordpress.com). It says it is already reserved – I agree, by me. A tad frustrating given this is my start to wordpress. Please help.

How did you “reserve” the domain name chocolategoose.wordpress.com? Blog names are only reserved when a person opens an account but does not make a blog at that time
The account https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/chocolategoose has been registered since November 2011 – that is who the blog chocolategoose has been reserved for

Thank you, but that is exactly what I did auxclass. On 23 June or thereabouts I set it all up, even chose a template but didn’t start the actual blog because I was thinking about using my domain and doing it all in one go. I’ve heard positive things about WordPress, but not just getting frustrated.

Is this just members chatting or is someone from WordPress going to help? I’m not sure how this works.
-
It’s just dead chat –
actually most of the help in the forum is by unpaid volunteers in cooperation with the staff – when we can’t help we flag things for the staff – many times we ask additional questions or give advice on how to have the correct information listed so the staff can help on the first attempt – that is why I ask how you”reserved” a blog name since the name you want seems to have been reserved by another account for over a year – did you get to some type of “reserve” screen?
-
Sorry, I don’t mean to sound rude but I was soooo stoked when it seemed to set it all up. I don’t recall an “accepted” or “reserved” screen, but when I was going through the initial account set up process and put in the name I wanted for my blog, it told me it was available and I continued on with the process believing it had been accepted. Is there any way there could be a glitch in the system? I am so disappointed.

Any chance you made a typo when you checked the availability of the blog name?
Do note that domain mapping will cover over the base blog name – but yes I like the blog base name and the mapped domain name to match also

Hi angiehull,
I do not see any blogs listed under your username.
It looks like there’s a user using the name chocolategoose, which like auxclass noted, was registered a couple of years ago. That means they have the blog address chocolategoose.wordpress.com reserved, if they choose to create it – just like you can have the blog angiehull.wordpress.com.
If you wish to use chocolategoose.com on a site on WordPress.com, you can still do so by creating a blog with any address, and then purchasing domain mapping. In fact, you could map chocolategoose.com on a site at angiehull.wordpress.com. Only you would know the underlying address – any visitor to your site would just see chocolategoose.com.

Thanks everyone. I have no idea what happened. I am still convinced it was available but you have all been very helpful. I am an extreme beginner so will hopefully find my way through this experience without too much more frustration :)
Onwards and upwards!

Maybe there was a glitch or something – hard to say
You be welcome & good luck with your blog

Hi angiehull,
I’m sorry you found your first time through WordPress.com to be frustrating.
I’m going to close this thread, but please feel free to post again if you have additional questions about using WordPress.com!
