Reset and Import
-
Hi,
I’m moving my blog to wordpress.com from a different platform and I have an XML file to import the content. I did this a few years back already but the XML I imported then did;t have all the categories for my post, so I want to do it again. I have a few questions:
1) What is the easiest way to delete everything from my current blog (juststrollingaround.wordpress.com)? Is there a ‘reset’ button or do I have to do it from the posts page with the bulk actions?
2) The XML I want to import is 85Mb. Although I was able to upload it while testing it, nothing happened. Do I need to split this file or will I be able to import the whole thing at once?
3) Finally, once I import the XML file, how long does it take for the content to be available?Thank so much for the help!

Hi
Here’s information on how to empty all of the content from your site: https://en.support.wordpress.com/empty-site/
Once the import is complete, they content should be available momentary. The import itself may take a little bit of time due to the size, but once it uploads successfully, you’ll be able to see your content.
I’m not sure just what the file limit is for an XML import. You can try your 85MB file, and if you have issues, it may be best to split it up. I’m going to tag this for the staff to take a look at and advise regarding the upload size.
Hope this helps!

Hi @simonuribe, I just wanted to note, 85MB is quite large; you might have an issue with the export file. Normally 15MB is the max size we see.
If you’re importing from WordPress.org, can you remove any unmoderated and spam comments, and then try making your export once more?
Also, if you’re importing from WordPress.org, you won’t have to delete / start over. Just re-import. It’ll catch the changes. But you’re welcome to remove everything if you’d like, too.
If you’re importing from some other platform, let us know what it is; I’ll see if that’s a normal file size or what recommendations I could make.
Cheers! And thank you for your help here, @melindahelt .

Hi Supernovia,
thanks for the help! I was able to import the 85Mb file using the WordPress importer and it said it imported correctly. It also said it would take up to 24 hours for the changes to be visible. I’ll report once I hear back.
