Reset site
-
Hello,
I’ve been trying to get my portfolio projects to show up as my front page and nothing is working. The only thing I can think of is – there is a file, page or tag causing a problem.
I don’t want to delete my site, but I would hit to reset it – so I can try again from scratch.
Can someone help me?

Dear Jenny,
You can definitely start fresh, but maybe we can help you do what you are trying to do before you start deleting things.
When I click on your site I come to your Home page which displays the same information that you have on your PORTFOLIO page. Is this what you desire it to do? Or were you looking for another response?
-
Thank you for your response!
I finally figured it out! Although now the site takes forever to load, is there a problem I am missing, maybe?

I noticed it had a slow load; it has about a 3-5 second lag in time. I do not know how to repair that issue, but I will tag this for help. Maybe we can get an answer!

Hi folks, I ran this through a test at webpagetest.org and it seems okay here. It also loaded pretty quickly for me.
But just to test something, would you try disabling your sharing buttons from the front page? That’s under settings > sharing . It looks like it may be trying to load up a twitter count somehow, and since they no longer support that, it could be stalling things slightly.
-
Hey there, I just removed those sharing features, unfortunately it seems a little faster, but still slow.
I’m not sure what could be causing this? :-/

@supernovia
I just ran a pingdom website speed test in case the result “Your website is faster than 90% of all tested websites” is relevant it’s at http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/1AV23/http://jpodushko.wordpress.com/ -
Nope same speed everywhere.
Well I would like for it to load once the homepage is opened, since I’m a retoucher I don’t want my portfolio taking a whole 20 seconds (not a lot technically, but for website loading seems a bit much lol) to populate 4 images.

Okay. Do you get the same result on different computers?
It takes about 1.5 seconds here; on a throttled test it’s taking about 3. But it’s nothing out of the ordinary considering what you’re loading.

It’s loading fast for me. See here http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/eqQnJ3/http://jpodushko.wordpress.com/
I’m on windows 10 and using FF42. Maybe Staff need to know exactly what your specific computing environment details. Please work through the list that follows and report your details back here.
1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:
http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/safari-ipad-clear-cache.htm

(b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled
http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654
(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily. Know also that security and firewall programs and programs that run incognito mode may need to be temporarily disabled as well.
(d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions4. You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not then go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download and install the latest version of flash.
5. Try using another browser.
6. If you are not successful please provide this specific info:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/
(c) Exactly what you experience including exactly what any error reports you receive state.
(d) Screenshots can be helpful. You can use http://snag.gy/ or http://cloudup.com to share screenshots and link to them here. If you use the WordPress.com guide for screenshots http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/ you can and upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it. -
I have been using Chrome, but it seems you are right. I just tried on my MAC and it loads a lot faster on there. Weird :-/
Thank you for all of your help! I really appreciate it? :-)

No to worry about the punctuation. I am visually challenged and make mistakes every day here.
Which version of Chrome were you using please?
Did you change to using another browser when you changed to your Mac?
If you did then which one and which version number are you using now?
-
Aha thanks :-)
Google Chrome 47.0.2526.73 (Official Build)
On my Mac I have the latest version of Firefox ver 26 (older Mac).
I also checked on my Samsung Phone (Galaxy S5) and it loaded fast as well.
Maybe it’s a Chrome issue :-/

If you’d like to troubleshoot, go to discover.wordpress.com and let me know whether any other sites there load up slowly on chrome. Also, check this demo site to see whether it is slow for you:
https://illustratrdemo.wordpress.com/If all WordPress.com sites or all sites made with the Ilustratr theme are slow, it’s likely one of your browser plugins or extensions. You can also test to see whether it runs faster in an Incognito window (since Incognito will often disable some extensions.)
And of course if you’d rather not troubleshoot, that’s OK too. But if you do find something, let us know. Do know we haven’t had other complaints of slow sites in Chrome.

Hello all,
I have no idea what is going on, but I just loaded my site on Chrome and now it is working fine? lol
I feel like I am in a twilight zone. Maybe it was just glitchy for me yesterday, but now all is right with the world today!
Thank you all for all your help, advice and tips! :-)
