Reset site for import

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
I downloaded WordPress to my localhost to develop a site that was already created. Now I wish to import the site into the existing URL but none of the changes will overwrite. I tried deleting all posts, pages, and media, but it wasn’t enough. Can you please help me reset the data so an import will change the site pages?

Ignore the automatic script on the first message. The blog I need help with merrilymeserve.wordpress.com.

  • Hi there,

The only content that can be imported to a WordPress.com site is posts, pages and comments exported from another site in the form of an XML file. On a WordPress site that export option is found under Tools ->Export in the dashboard.

    Import

It is not possible to upload your locally built site to WordPress.com at all and there is nothing I can reset that will make that possible. That local site uses the self-hosted version of WordPress, called WordPress.org, and needs to be uploaded to a server – either your own or with a hosting provider like Pressable or Bluehost.

You can read here about the differences between the two versions of WordPress:

    WordPress.com and WordPress.org

I didn’t realize that was the case. Thank you for taking a look. I’ll consider other options.
